Refugee Girl

Refugee Girl is a story about Hang Kim Sonnenberg told in first person. Hang vividly brings to life her early years as a refugee. Escaping in the middle of the night with her mother and three siblings.

The narrative is compelling with inspirational and unflinching honest moments. She was around six years young when her family started to plan escape routes to leave the communist country of Vietnam in 1979 just to find FREEDOM.

They were gripping on a dream in hope to find the land of the promising, the land of many opportunities! Her parents were waiting for the right time to execute the escape. Her parents making the dangerous journey entails their separation in pursuit of FREEDOM.

I read this book/memoir from cover to cover in one sitting. It brought me to tears a few times. I want to hug the author as tightly as I can and let her know she is both welcomed and loved here. Many of us take for granted the freedoms bestowed upon us for simply being born an American. Buy this book and read it!

Some Reviews

I      had such a wonderful experience being immersed in the story, not just for the extremes the author experienced and endured, but for her brilliant attitude, her wonderful outlook , and the heart that she poured into these pages. I    loved every chapter.  M. Marni

To delve into the memories of a 6 year old child's escape from a war torn country is fascinating and heartbreaking. The strength and determination it took to plan and execute as well as to start a new life is absolutely admirable beyond words. Beautifully sad read, but a must.
